Pastor Bomey will be writing semi-regular blog posts here as he shares his thoughts with us regarding a variety of topics.
Want to stay up-to-date with Pastor's blog without having to check back often? We provide a full RSS feed via the sidebar on the right side of the page. RSS is a protocol to allow readers such as yourself to easily receive notification when a site or blog posts updated content. A normal RSS feed is used by a program or service (called an "aggregator") to deliver notifications to the reader. One popular web-based aggregator is Google Reader . However, if you'd simply like to receive emails when this blog is updated, a service called FeedBurner will let you do just that. Type your email address in the box to the right, click "Subscribe", and Feed Burner will do all the work for you!
At Saline First Assembly of God we strive to keep our preaching and teaching current and relevant. The Iraq War is as relevant as it gets. May the Lord bring a swift and peaceful resolution to that horrible conflict!
WHAT BUGS/BLESSES YOU?
Everyone in the world, including people in the congregation of our Saline church, have things that are annoying or get under their skin from time to time, me included. It doesn’t matter how nice, how tolerant, or even how Christian you are. From the sweetest grandma to the easiest going “B-type” personality the world has some head scratching moments that defy understanding. Thank God though, that there are also great and precious blessings, breathtaking gifts from on high, special touches from the Master’s hand that encourage us to keep on keeping on.
Let me give you some of each of the one’s I’ve observed and then ask you for yours – First a bug, then a blessing:
I suspect almost everyone has spent time
wondering what the future holds for them, their family, their health, or just
the world in general.
Even
as you read this blog, school has just begun, Detroit is changing mayors, the
NFL has played its first games, the economy is faltering, the presidential
election year is upon us, and we're all "another year older and deeper in debt"
as the song says. Life raises questions,
poses problems, and offers blessings but when, in what order, and how will it
all come about moment-by-unsettling moment? Questions we wish we knew the answers to ahead of time.
Well, the Olympics and its compelling storylines are over and now begins the national political convention season. These will be followed by the start of school, the new fall line-up of television programming, the presidential election night, not to mention the press of just normal regular everyday life, and on and on and on. A writer once said that we live in "a high stimulus society" - something's always going on that is vying for our time and attention. So true!
Today it is 99 days until
the general election for President of the United States.I'm already weary of all the electioneering
and ad campaigns and technically the candidates haven't even been selected yet
(presumptively yes, actually no).How
can w as Christ-followers be sure we vote for the "right" candidate? Is there any way to determine this?
In my days in college
majoring in political science, and later in law school, I would have said yes
and then tried to argue with people over policies and political
accomplishments, etc.No longer. There is a better way, and I found it in two
different Christian magazine articles - the May/June 2008 issue of Discipleship
Journal, and the June 2008 issue of Christianity Today. Allow me to distill
these articles down for you and throw in a few comments of my own. If you'd
like more details on these topics, I will be preaching in more depth on these
same articles here at Saline First Assembly of God on Sunday, August 3 and 10
in the 10:45 AM service.
