Questions for God

Greetings world! This is the first in what I hope will be a long and meaningful relationship with everyone who takes a moment of their valuable time to read this new blog.

This new technology is fascinating! The atmosphere we live in is comprised of such sections as the stratosphere, the troposphere, even the ionosphere (all sections of the sky on out to outer space). But now comes the blogosphere. The blogosphere is more a matter of inner space. My inner thoughts extended out to all of you. My hope, however, is that by launching this blog it will bless, inspire, and most especially spur the reader on to think. Then, I invite you to respond by posting your own comments here.

That way we can enter into a genuine conversation and avoid what so many church settings have become - a one way stream of information, but not as much communication. I'm proposing a dialogue between this writer and all readers. Together in this blog we can pursue truth on any matter that's under discussion. I invite you on a journey filled with thoughts, facts, opinions, impressions, observations, quotations, inspirations, and maybe even a little humor along the way.  I believe we'll find truth along the way and that it will inevitably be found in some way shape or form in Jesus Christ.

The church I pastor, Saline First Assembly of God, is a great church! I thank my congregation and leadership team for allowing me this opportunity to exchange a few words with you. Remember now, the only way this thing works is for you to post your own comments back so they can become part of our search for the truth.

This Week's Discussion Topic # 1 - QUESTIONS for GOD

The other day I spent a considerable amount of time wading through the single worst questionnaire I have ever had the displeasure of trying to answer. It was an insurance company application for directors and officers liability coverage. The questions were so open-ended that to accurately answer them would have been nearly impossible. Worse, one or more were multiple-part questions, but the response choice was only "yes" or "no." In the remarks section of the form I tried to gently tell them they needed to revise their application.

I've heard people say that when they get to Heaven they want to ask God a few questions. I'm not sure what makes them think they have to wait till then to talk with God about their questions. My God is "as close as the mention of His name." Nevertheless, here are a few of my questions for God:

  1. Did you really create youth pastors?
  2. Will there be sound systems in Heaven?
  3. What's wrong with long sermons?

Seriously though, here's one question I'd like an answer to: Why does the Christian walk have to be such a struggle sometimes? Wouldn't it be more of an attraction to unbelievers if living for Christ was more of "a walk in the park?" I will keep this in mind at all times though - God doesn't owe me an explanation. And I'm okay with that, because I trust Him.

NOW IT'S YOUR TURN, POST YOUR COMMENTS AND QUESTIONS. LET THE DIALOGUE BEGIN!

As far as youth pastors are concerned, I would say that God really did create us, he just made us strange.

My question is why did He make such wonderful trees, that in the spring, for a mere week, sometimes two, blossom beautiful flowers, only to then have ugly green leaves for the next 6 months. Why couldn't these trees stay beautiful all summer?

That, fortunately or not, is my most pressing unanswered question for the moment.

Welcome to the Blog'osphere Pastor B, keep it up!

I have one of those "What does it matter" questions for God. And really it doesn't matter as far as my salvation or walk with the Lord goes...I'm just curious. I want to know where the second set of cattle came from after the first group was wiped out in plague. Like I said it is a really dumb question. Maybe the Scripture "Cast all your care on me" is to help with the struggle we face on occassion when we walk with Jesus.

I think the more questions we have for God the more impressed we are with the power he holds. We are such small infants compared to him and we should be as infants looking at the mighty love he holds for us as our father. A few of my personal answers I love pastors all kinds (as long as they are in line with the word of God) they show us and lead us to the meat of Gods word that most of us wouldn’t read on our own. I love long sermons personally, that is if I get the chance to here what pastor is talking about. Whenever there is a long sermon there is God. Some subjects can’t be watered down into 35-40 minutes they need time. Lunch will always be there we may not. So maybe we need to here what God has to tell us, forget the clock.

I can answer those questions! Yes..most definitely God made youth pastors...they are part of God's sense of humor for sure...but who else would love all our youth all the time??? No...there definitely won't be a sound system in heaven...Jesus never needed one and he talked to groups of 5,000 and 3,000 people at a time. Sorry you technology lovers....you'll be worshiping before the throne, not making sure all is running right for the rest of us to be able to see/hear. And last but not least there is nothing wrong with long sermons if they are truly inspired and empowered by the Holy Spirit. This current belief that people don't hear you after 10 or 15 minutes shows how undisciplined our minds have become. If God is in it and we are spiritually attuned...we'll LOVE a long sermon. As for my unanswered questions...I do have them...but I think when I see Jesus I just won't find it imperative to ask, although I am sure that I'll be able to ask if I still want to.

Great Blog Pastor! Thanks for the opportunity to read what others are thinking too. It made me think of a story someone once shared with me of why they thought there must be good/bad, easy/hard times, and joy/suffering in our personal lives. She compared it to finding one of those fake coins or dollar bills you see sometimes as an advertisement or even a track. The resemblence to real thing is there to catch our attention, but as soon as we turn it over and see the add on the back-its trash, it has no value. We have to be able to see both sides of life to know that its real, its a one-time shot, and its precious.

When Pastor Bomey writes that book of questions to God someday, probably entitled: "Why God?", I will be right there to add plenty of questions in support. God doesn't owe me any answers, but he gave me a brain to be curious and analytical. Ask anyone who knows me and I think they will agree that I am "full of......questions". (Gotch ya). Marty

If God likes long sermons, then let's make them realllllllly long....then they would be much better...say....3 hours.....I'm one of those who checks out after 15 minutes. I believe that makes me "undisciplined"...okay.....In my radio days, preachers who did 5 minute programs prepared much longer than those who did 30 minute programs...Hmmm?????
