I suspect almost everyone has spent time wondering what the future holds for them, their family, their health, or just the world in general.

Even as you read this blog, school has just begun, Detroit is changing mayors, the NFL has played its first games, the economy is faltering, the presidential election year is upon us, and we're all "another year older and deeper in debt" as the song says. Life raises questions, poses problems, and offers blessings but when, in what order, and how will it all come about moment-by-unsettling moment? Questions we wish we knew the answers to ahead of time.

But our being unable to see into the future may actually be a good thing because to be able to do so might be very disturbing. Think about it - to know, in advance, about famines, flu epidemics, approaching hurricane disasters, racial injustices, criminal activity, and the like would carry with it such a crushing weight of responsibility and concern that most of us wouldn't be able to bear up under the load. So, perhaps by not letting us see into these things ahead of time God is really being quite merciful...besides, God doesn't owe you or me an explanation. We're asked in the Bible to walk by faith not by sight. Trust in the Lord and know that He has you, your family's future, and all these matters well in hand!

In the mean time, here's something we can do about the future. Pray for peace in the midst of all these trying times. Pray for wisdom to know how to deal with them when they draw nigh unto you. Pray that God will make a way where there seems to be no way. Pray that God will supernaturally intercede and turn the hurricane, heal the economy, or minimize the epidemic. Pray with all your might, because God answers prayer!!!!

Some of you might have noticed too that many of the troubles mentioned are also signs of the end times. Friends, by His own admission Jesus is coming soon, and His reward is with Him. The signs of His coming are everywhere. Now is the time to work and pray fervently and feverishly for the salvation of souls because when He returns salvation opportunity ends and the eradication and punishment of evil begins.

2 Peter 3:9 says, "The Lord is not slow in keeping His promise, as some count slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish but everyone to come to repentance." Nevertheless, the end will come! Doomsayer you say? No, truth-teller actually.
