Well, the Olympics and its compelling storylines are over and now begins the national political convention season. These will be followed by the start of school, the new fall line-up of television programming, the presidential election night, not to mention the press of just normal regular everyday life, and on and on and on. A writer once said that we live in "a high stimulus society" - something's always going on that is vying for our time and attention. So true!
But where does all this leave Jesus Christ relative to our lives? Hopefully right where he ought always to be...first in our hearts, first in our thoughts, and first in everything we do! Don't let the distractions of the day cause you to lose touch with God, even for a brief moment. It's also been said that if Christ is not Lord of all, then He's not Lord at all. Ask yourself, is Jesus the head not just of my life, but of every kingdom of my life? This includes, work, education, home life, decisions, finances, relationships, choices, and on and on and on. If you can't say that He is - that is, if Jesus is somehow excluded from some part(s) of your daily life - then you're "out of sorts" with God. And just like when your body's health is out of sorts you pay the consequences physically, you'll pay the consequences in many more ways when Jesus is not Lord of all the kingdoms of your life on a daily basis.
Don't risk the high costs of stepping out of God's will simply because you get disconnected from Him by everything that's going on around you. Nothing is more important or worth more than your relationship with Christ - nothing! Indeed, the busier you are the greater the premium you should put on staying in tune with the Holy Spirit because you're stretched so thin you can't afford to miss any guidance or provision He wants to give you.
Here's some advice I've been given in the past - every now and then slow down, look up, (even in the midst of your busyness), and listen for that still small voice of God. He's trying to get through to you. Are you receiving the signal?
My wife claims I suffer from some amount of hearing loss, and my physician has documented that there is in fact some of that happening. But here I'm talking about spiritual hearing. At least twice in the Bible in Mark 4:9 and Luke 14:35 Jesus said, "He who has ears to hear, let him hear." How's your hearing been lately?! Let me know what you think by posting a reply.
Love, Pastor Bomey
